Using dental bonding for smile restoration

There are many solutions available to patients today regarding cosmetic services. This includes teeth bonding, sometimes known as cosmetic bonding or dental bonding, for gaps, chips, and cracks. Dr. Darien Ephram and his team at Laurel Canyon Dental, Darien Ephram DDS in Valley Village, California, work directly with patients to help them understand the many aesthetic services available at the office to enhance and restore the smile.

What is dental bonding?

Dr. Ephram and his team educate patients on the treatment options available for restoring and rejuvenating the smile. This includes dental bonding or composite resin bonding. Dental bonding is a simple yet effective treatment that uses composite resin to quickly and easily repair chipped or broken teeth, fill gaps in between your teeth, restore the length of stained or misshapen teeth and even change the shape of a tooth.

What happens during an appointment for dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a quick procedure that can be completed in just one office visit. To begin with, we will prepare the tooth by etching it with an acidic solution and applying a bonding primer to it. This is followed by placing a very thin layer of composite resin on top of the tooth. When this has hardened sufficiently, we will add more layers until the necessary strength and structure have been achieved. We can then adjust the color and contour of the resin so that it blends seamlessly with the surrounding teeth.

How long does dental bonding last?

With proper care, many patients will enjoy their dental bonding for several years before it needs to be replaced. An alternative that lasts longer is the porcelain veneer, which is also attainable at our office.
