It’s hard to feel confident and happy with yourself when your teeth aren’t in good condition. But there’s really no reason to live with a smile that makes you feel self-conscious about your appearance.

Whatever your dental concern is at this moment, Dr. Darien Ephram and the team at Laurel Canyon Dental, Darien Ephram DDS in Valley Village, California will help you find the solution. We offer all the services you and your family need to transform a damaged smile into a happy smile that you can be proud to show off.

Cavities develop over time for various reasons, no matter how well you take care of your teeth. In fact, one of the most common services we perform is dental fillings.

Fillings are important because when we catch and remove decay soon enough, we can prevent it from spreading and causing even more damage. This is why we stress the need for regular exams and cleanings. It’s much easier to take steps to protect your oral health now than to go through the expense and discomfort of more complicated problems later.

Tooth-Colored Fillings Repair a Damaged Smile

If you have older fillings, you may have noticed that they look discolored, have chipped and uneven edges, and don’t match your own teeth. At Laurel Canyon Dental, Darien Ephram DDS, we use only tooth-colored fillings. They’re also referred to as composite fillings or restorations because they’re made up of a combination of materials. This special type of filling looks very similar to natural dental enamel, and can be customized to closely match the color of your own teeth.

When Dr. Ephram creates a new filling for you, he starts by carefully removing only the decayed portion of the tooth. Next, the filling is securely bonded to the tooth and cured with a special light to harden it, creating a very strong and long-lasting repair.

Unlike amalgam (silver fillings), composites don’t create a dark spot in your smile because they blend in more naturally with your surrounding teeth. Amalgam fillings also tend to corrode and chip over time, which opens up a space where bacteria can collect and saliva can leak through, leading to further problems.
